Alastair Cook, England’s one-day international captain, believes he could adapt to the Twenty20 format were he to return to the international side as captain for the two matches against West Indies next week after Stuart Broad was ruled out.Broad suffered a shoulder injury during the fourth ODI against India at Lord’s, and will also miss the one-day leg of the India tour although there is hope we will be fit to resume his Twenty20 captaincy for the one-off game in Kolkata on October 29. However, before then, England are left with a tricky decision as to how to fill his vacancy because Eoin Morgan, Broad’s vice-captain, is out of action until January with his own shoulder problem.There are a couple of left-field options England could consider, such as Graeme Swann or Kevin Pietersen, which would make it five captains in a season, or they could extend Cook’s remit from his ODI role where he has had a successful summer with series victories against Sri Lanka and India.Cook’s only T20 captaincy experience came against South Africa, in Centurion, in 2009, which was his first match in charge of England. He looked lost in the field as Graeme Smith and Loots Bosman added 170 for the first wicket to set up a crushing 84-run victory for the hosts. However, Cook has had the chance to expand his leadership skills in the last 18 months, firstly captaining the tour to Bangladesh then being named the one-day captain.There have also been signs during the season that Cook has expanded his game in 50-over cricket, suggesting that he could have another crack at Twenty20 where he currently has four international caps.”It’s another step out of my comfort zone, a lot more hard work,” Cook said after being named the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year on Monday evening. “But I’ve scored runs for Essex in Twenty20, and if I get the chance to play Twenty20 [for England] I hope I can show that again. I’ve always said I want to play all three formats of the game.”Test cricket obviously comes a bit more naturally to me, and suits my style of game. In the last two years I’ve really worked hard to develop my range of shots, and it’s worked – and I think there’s huge potential still to come as those shots become more and more natural.”The problem with handing Cook the role is that it would be disruptive to the top order. Against India, at Old Trafford, England opened with Craig Kieswetter and Alex Hales so Cook would have to take the position of one of those players. Andy Flower had hoped to use the matches against West Indies – a late addition to the schedule due to TV commitments – as the first stage in planning the defence of the World Twenty20 title, in Sri Lanka next September, but without Morgan and Broad he is missing two key elements.”Obviously it’s very disappointing for Stuart to miss out,” Cook added. “It’s gutting for him, but it gives another person a chance to captain England. The selectors will make that decision. It’s not whether you’d like the job, it’s whether you’re honoured enough to be given it.”

ما حدث من حكم المباراة، تسبب في نوبة غضب كبيرة من لاعبي المنتخب الأمريكي الجنوبي، بعد اعتراضات كبيرة، قبل أن يطلق خوسيه خيمينيز عباراته تجاه دانيل سبيرت (لص وابن عاهرة).

حسبما أكدت صحيفة “ماركا” الإسبانية، فإن مدافع أتلتيكو مدريد تعرض للإيقاف 4 مباريات وغرامة 17.5 ألف جنيه إسترليني، كما تم إيقاف زميله إيدينسون كافاني لمدة مباراة واحدة مثل دييجو جودين.

كافاني عوقب بسبب صب غضبه على تقنية الفيديو وضربها قبل الخروج من الملعب، بينما جودين كان يحاول الاعتداء على حكم المباراة.

واصل لاعبو أوروجواي الحديث عن حكم المباراة في الأسابيع التي تلت كأس العالم حيث ادعى كافاني أن الحكم يجب أن “يوضع في السجن”.

المنتخب الأوروجواياني أيضًا سيتم تغريمه 43 ألف و800 جنيه إسترليني، ولعب مباراته القادمة مع تخفيض عدد الحضور الجماهيري على أرضة.

يأتي إيقاف كافاني وخيمينيز دوليًا فقط، وهو ما لا يؤثر على مشاركة الثنائي مع فالنسيا أو أتلتيكو مدريد على الترتيب.

وقال زيدان خلال تصريحات لبرنامج “ملعب أون تايم” المذاع على قناة “أون تايم سبورت”: “النادي الدنماركي سألني عن إمام عاشور منذ أسبوعين، عن وجهة نظري في اللاعب، وأنا قلت لهم أن اللاعب هام جدًا في الدوري المصري، ويمتلك إمكانيات تجعله يتطور لو ذهب لناد في أوروبا”.

وأضاف: “الموضوع كان بيني وبين النادي الدنماركي، حتى حدثت بعض الأمور فقررت أن أتواصل مع إمام عاشور وأوضحت له عدة أمور ووجهت له نصائح”.

وواصل: “ميتلاند الدنماركي محطة كبيرة جدًا وهو المنافس الأول لـ كوبنهاجن في الدوري، وقلت لإمام لا تُفكر إلا في السفر، في حالة فتح نادي الزمالك باب المفاوضات مع النادي الدنماركي”.

وأكمل: “قلت لـ إمام، محمد صلاح عندما سافر أو ميدو أو أي لاعب لم يُسافر على ناد كبير في أوروبا مرة واحدة، وما علمته أن النادي الدنماركي سيبرم عقدًا مع عاشور جيد جدًا وسيحصل على أعلى راتب في تاريخ النادي، وسيكون صفقة النجم الجديد”.

وأردف: “أنا أرى إن امكانيات إمام عاشور تجعله يتماشى جدًا مع طريقة لعب ميتلاند، وهذا النادي محطة مهمة جدًا جدًا في أوروبا”.

وتستكمل: “لماذا لا يسافر إمام ويحقق حلمه ويلعب 10 سنوات في أوروبا، يجب أن ينتقل لناد أوروبي يلعب سنتين ثم يلعب في دوري أخر سنتين وهكذا، لأنه لو ذهب للدوري الإنجليزي مرة واحدة لن ينجح”.

وأتم: “على إمام عاشور أن يتحدى نفسه، ولن يطور نفسه لو ظل في الدوري المصري، الاحتراف في أوروبا مختلف، تفكيره سيختلف”.

Earlier this week, towards the end of a media interaction during which he calmly dealt with questions on topics ranging from the migration of South African cricketing talent to his decision to move to the Cape Cobras next season, he was asked who he thought could continue the tradition of high-quality wicket-keeping in South Africa.He took a couple of seconds to frame his answer, and it wasn’t till he had made it absolutely clear that he considered himself the man who should don the gloves for South Africa that he mentioned some other contenders.”Quite a few names have been thrown around,” he said. “But you know, it’s actually up to the guys to put their hands up and say, ‘Okay, fine, that is my position’. It’s quite difficult for me to answer that question because I still feel I’m good enough to be there, and I still want to be there, I’m passionate enough to want to play for my country. So I don’t want to look too far behind me, I’d rather look in front. Only South Africa have beaten India in a Test at home in more than five years, yet a whitewash has hardly ever been a thought in recent times. A mix of flat tracks and slow starts has denied India absolute domination even while being kings of their castle.In this series against West Indies, though, India overcame the slow start in Delhi and the flat track in Kolkata. They now stand on the cusp of that elusive whitewash, just like they did in 2002-03 against the same opponents, the last time India went into the last Test with the possibility of a clean sweep. India fell behind in that Eden Gardens Test back then, and Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman forced a draw on the final day. They won’t want to leave the job unfinished this time.When West Indies went to Pakistan in 1997-98, they had been whitewashed only once, that too in their first series, back in 1928.
