Tottenham keen on €25m bid for Sampdoria centre-back Joachim Andersen

[ad_pod ]

According to Calciomercato, Tottenham have reportedly declared their interest in €25m-rated Sampdoria centre-back Joachim Andersen, whilst Inter Milan are also keen on the defender.

What’s the word, then?

Spurs have declared their interest in the Dane with the future of Toby Alderweireld still an uncertain one. Tottenham triggered a one-year extension in the Belgian international’s contract in January, despite Alderweireld rejecting the offer on a new long-term contract.

However, the extension saw a £25m release clause come into play, which is certainly an achievable figure and one that a number of clubs could well meet given Alderweireld’s pedigree.

As a result, Tottenham have made headway in his attempts to bring 24-year-old Andersen to the new White Hart Lane having made his interest public, and if any potential bid is accepted, it would see the defender become the club’s first signing in over two transfer windows.

Could Christian Eriksen be key in negotiations?

As previously mentioned, Serie A giants Inter are also interested in signing the Sampdoria star, and one would assume that the famous Italian side could turn the head of most playing in Italy’s top-flight given their standing in the game.

As a result of that, it will be tough for Spurs to fend off such a prestigious club, although they do have a secret weapon up their sleeve in Eriksen.

The Danish international is unquestionably the star of the national team and the most famous Danish player right now. Andersen is yet to appear for the senior side, only appearing for the Denmark Under-21 team, and it wouldn’t be outrageous to presume that he is keen to play alongside his country’s main man at club as well as international level.

Spurs must ensure that they use Eriksen’s reputation in the Danish football world in order to secure what would be a big signing for them.

Celtic must avoid Dembele exit

Celtic have seen numerous players leave the Parkhead club for substantial amounts of money over the past few years such as Odsonne Edouard, Kristoffer Ajer, Jeremie Frimpong and Kieran Tierney to name a few.

Also, the club have seen several players leave on free transfers after running their contracts down, namely Oliver Ntcham and Scott Brown from the previous summer window.

In terms of their current players, it seems as though the Hoops could be in danger of losing one figure, in particular, as a free agent this summer which would surely be a massive blow for the club.

According to a recent article from the Daily Record, Celtic’s 19-year-old winger Karamoko Dembele could be in danger of leaving the club at the end of the season when his current contract runs out.

They said: “Out of sight, out of mind? That could be the case for Karamoko Dembele. The highly-rated winger has been expected to enjoy a breakout campaign this season but has been plagued by injuries as he enters the final months of his contract.

“We are in the final run-in and it’s the last chance for Dembele to catch the eye of Ange Postecoglou. However, he has spent most of the season with the B team.

However, the following 11 words seemed to imply that the teenager is doomed: “It could be time up for the forward at Celtic Park.”

As a product of Celtic’s youth system, the winger has only made ten senior appearances for the Hoops, the first of which came back in May 2019.

Praised for being “exceptional at every age group he’s played in” by journalist Alison McConnell, Dembele may not have had the easiest of seasons this time around due to an ankle injury that has kept him out of action for the majority of it.

However, given his young age and the previous experience he has of working his way through the youth ranks at Celtic, the club should definitely try and tie the attacker down to a new contract and keep developing him into a potential regular first-team star for Ange Postecoglou.

After all, this is someone who is one of the most vibrant young graduates the club have ever had; to see him leave for nothing would be an unforgivable sequence of events given the way he’s been talked about since bursting onto the scene.

If the Hoops were to see the young winger leave as a free agent in the summer and then see him really blossom into a senior superstar at another club, the club and Postecoglou would have shot themselves in the foot and very much live to regret not offering him a new deal.

Wolves handed Willy Boly injury boost

Having entered the winter break in eighth place in the Premier League table with 34 points on the board from 21 games, Wolves are in a comfortable place to push on with their campaign and aim to secure a European place by the end of the season.

In addition to that, it seems as though the Old Gold could be set to see the return of one of their barely seen players from injury in the coming weeks.

What’s the latest?

On the subject of what the current situation is with defender Willy Boly in regards to his recovery from injuries that have kept him sidelined for the past few weeks, Lage had this to say on the matter.

He said: “He’s started training outside, not with the team, with his physio. Good news.”

Wolves originally signed Boly back in the 2017 summer transfer window from FC Porto on loan before securing him on a permanent basis a year later.

Overall, the 30-year-old has gone on to make a total of 137 appearances in a Wolves shirt across all competitions, scoring nine goals and providing four assists along the way, which is a decent return for a defender.

Fans will be delighted

While a full return to action may not be on the cards for the Ivory Coast international just yet, it’s good to hear that he has taken a step towards making a full recovery, something that surely delight a lot of fans in the process.

Even though the trio of Conor Coady, Romain Saiss and Max Kilman have been three of the top five outfield Wolves players in terms of minutes played this season in the Premier League, and have done pretty well as a defensive unit with Lage’s side conceding just 16 league goals this season, it would be a massive boost for them to have Boly back as a viable option at the back in case any of the other defenders get injured.

After all, he is still vitally important. Last term, for instance, in a three-month injury layoff Wolves played 15 league matches and kept just one clean sheet. Once Boly returned, they didn’t concede over the next 283 minutes of league action.

Moving forward, if the defender can recover as quickly as possible and keep his fitness up for the remainder of the season, he could put a turbulent first half to his latest campaign with Wolves behind him and potentially help his side secure European football again.

Spurs in line for Chelsea boost?

Tottenham Hotspur have been handed some encouragement ahead of the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final clash with Chelsea this week…

What’s the latest?

The club’s official Twitter account posted footage from their Hotspur Way training base on Monday evening as Antonio Conte’s squad went through some of their final preparations.

Just three seconds into the video, first-choice defender Eric Dier can be seen alongside Ben Davies.

The 27-year-old has missed the first-leg of tonight’s encounter and the weekend’s FA Cup victory over League One outfit Morecambe with an injury.

Huge boost

Dier has started all 18 of their Premier League outings this season, meaning the Italian has trusted him to start ever since he arrived in north London to replace Nuno Santo.

Therefore, he will surely be delighted to have the English colossus back in training ahead of a crucial fixture.

Spurs have a lot of work to do to overturn a two-goal deficit against the Champions of Europe but there chances, especially defensively are bolstered by the possible return of Dier to the squad.

In his absence last week, Conte had to deploy a dodgy-looking back three of Davinson Sanchez, Japhet Tanganga and Ben Davies, in which they conceded twice with the former two making key errors.

Just last month, the Lilywhites head coach waxed lyrical about Dier and his potential.

“Eric Dier can become one of the best players in the world in that position,” he claimed (via the Daily Mail). “For sure he needs to work and continue to improve and understand the movement with the defensive line

“He has to lead more, because in that position you have to speak a lot because you have to stay in the middle, at the back where you can see everything.

“He has a great space for improvement but we are talking about a really good player, strong physically with a good personality and good technically because he was a midfielder.”

This glowing endorsement only goes to show how much Dier is admired by Conte and why he is ever so crucial to their fortunes going forward.

The Italian will surely be buzzing to have him nearing full fitness, regardless of whether that comes against the Blues tonight or for their Premier League return on Sunday, when they’ll face Arsenal in the north London derby.

Wolves must complete Riqui Puig transfer

Wolves now have only a few days left to bring any new players into their squad before the January transfer window closes.

One potential deal that the Old Gold could look to finalise before the end of the month is for Barcelona midfielder Riqui Puig, a player with whom they have been linked in recent weeks.

With Adama Traore reportedly set to join the Spanish giants on loan until the end of the season with a view to a potential permanent deal waiting for him in the summer, these negotiations could give Wolves the opportunity to ask about the possibility of signing Puig, either before the upcoming transfer deadline or when the summer transfer window opens.

Having worked his way through Barcelona’s famous youth ranks, the 22-year-old – who is currently picking up £64k-per-week according to Salary Sport – has gone on to make 51 senior appearances for the La Liga club across all competitions, scoring one goal and providing three assists along the way.

Despite his experience, the midfielder hasn’t been a particularly important figure for Xavi this season with just two starts amid a total of 12 appearances across all competitions. That would suggest that a move from Barcelona to somewhere that he would obtain regular playing time would be beneficial for his career and development.

With that in mind, and given his young age, it could be worth Wolves trying to sign Puig – who has been labelled an “intelligent” player by his manager Xavi – on a long-term permanent deal to give him sufficient time to get accustomed to the Premier League and potentially become a regular figure in their team.

Taking all this into account, Jeff Shi now has the chance to sign Wolves’ next version of Ruben Neves as a young midfielder from a top European club who could come in and make a name for himself in the Premier League. The Portuguese midfielder has done just that since joining Wolves from FC Porto back in 2017, making a total of 197 appearances for the Old Gold.

Also, with Neves having been linked with a move away from Molineux, it could be an important piece of business from Wolves to bring Puig in if they end up selling their current midfield star any time soon.

Having had previous experience of signing young players from Barcelona as they did last summer with Francisco Trincao, a move for the current Blaugrana gem should definitely be considered either in the next few days or at the end of the season if his situation at Camp Nou doesn’t change.

Wolves: Luke Hatfield makes Sanches claim

Wolves are more likely to sign Lille’s Renato Sanches than Manchester United’s Donny van de Beek next summer, according to journalist Luke Hatfield.

The Lowdown: Wolves linked with midfield duo

Bruno Lage will likely be eyeing up new signings next month and in the summer as he looks to take his squad to the next level.

Wolves have been linked with moves for both Sanches and Van de Beek, with midfield reinforcements seemingly at the top of the manager’s wish list.

A fresh update has now emerged regarding the two players, perhaps making the situation a little clearer.

The Latest: Hatfield provides Sanches update

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Hatfield claimed a deal for Lille midfielder Sanches appears more likely than Van de Deek at the moment:

“I still think someone like Renato Sanches is going to be probably higher on the list for Wolves this winter or next summer.

“He offers a little bit more of an all-round game. But, I suppose, if they miss out on him or decide to look elsewhere then van de Beek could be a really good option for them.”

The Verdict: Too injury-prone?

Sanches is a wonderfully talented footballer, as highlighted by him winning the European Golden Boy award back in 2016, but injuries have since plagued his career.

That’s the main thing working against the Euro 2016 winner joining Wolves, with the 24-year-old never starting more than 16 league games in a season.

It could be that Van de Beek is a better option in that respect, having started more than 20 league matches three times in a campaign already in his fledgling career and enjoying a superior fitness record.

In other news, Wolves are reportedly still interested in signing one player. Find out who it is here.

Predicted Spurs XI, team news vs Burnley

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to bounce back when they make the trip to Burnley in the Premier League this afternoon.

Antonio Conte was left bitterly disappointed by his side’s humiliating Europa Conference League performance against NS Mura on Thursday night. He now needs to see a reaction in the English top-flight as Spurs can move into the top six with a win.

The Italian head coach rotated the bulk of his starting XI over in Slovenia and it would be a surprise to see many of those remain after such an embarrassing display.

What sort of lineup could we see from the 52-year-old today? Here’s what we are predicting…

There could be eight changes from the side which tasted defeat to Mura in midweek.

Between the sticks, club captain Hugo Lloris is expected to resume his no.1 league duties over Pierluigi Gollini, whilst Davinson Sanchez is the only defender to keep his place but that is due to Cristian Romero’s absence through injury.

Both Eric Dier and left-back Ben Davies return to the back-three, with Sergio Reguilon and Emerson Royal back involved on either flank, meaning that Ryan Sessegnon and Matt Doherty are axed.

In midfield, Oliver Skipp should remain, having served his one-game suspension, and he’ll likely partner Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the midfield engine room. That means there is no place for Dele Alli (25) or Byran Gil (20) in Lancashire this afternoon.

The third and final player to keep his spot in the starting XI is Harry Kane up top and he should be accompanied by Heung-min Son and Lucas Moura, just like against Leeds last weekend.

Predicted Spurs XI (3-4-3): Lloris; Davies, Dier, Sanchez; Reguilon, Skipp, Hojbjerg, Emerson; Son, Moura, Kane

Wolves must unleash Lee Harkin

Wolves could end up being short of wingers this window with Barcelona loanee Francisco Trincao reportedly unsatisfied at Molineux and won’t be signing a permanent deal whilst Adama Traore could see his loan move at the Spanish juggernaut made permanent.

In truth, neither player will be a loss for Wolves if they do depart with the duo both netting just one league goal each this season. However, it will leave a void that will need to be filled by Bruno Lage.

Granted, supporters will be keen to see the club show ambition and invest in exciting talents this summer after an impressive first campaign under Lage’s helm.

However, they should be aware that there are some top talents amongst the West Midlands club’s youth ranks, with winger Lee Harkin impressing for the U23s this term.

In the pipeline

The 18-year-old Northern Ireland starlet has featured 15 times in Premier League 2 for Wolves, netting four goals whilst also making two appearances in the EFL Trophy.

After mostly appearing off the bench at the start of the season, the winger is now a regular starter with the Black Country club sat in fifth in the Premier League 2 Division 2 table.

Harkin is very much on the radar of top clubs having burst onto the scene in Northern Ireland for Derry City as a 15-year-old. In a SuperCupNI match against Manchester United in 2018, the winger scored twice, having had a trial at Old Trafford, and was subject to serious praise from manager Martin Smith.

“Lee is a top player,” Smith said. “To have that much talent in the locker at 15 is something else. If he keeps his head and keeps progressing, he will do really well for himself.

“Manchester United know all about him, he was there on trial a month ago. He was very unlucky not to get his hat-trick.”

Lage has already demonstrated that he will offer opportunities to youngsters who are ready with Luke Cundle making three Premier League appearances this term.

With a potential shortage of wingers to come in the summer, the Portuguese manager should certainly be keeping tabs on the 18-year-old during pre-season with the youngster already demonstrating exciting potential.

West Ham United: Fans panic at Jarrod Bowen transfer news

A number of West Ham fans have panicked at the latest transfer news linking Jarrod Bowen with a move to Liverpool.

According to The Athletic (relayed by Anfield Watch), Liverpool have continued to monitor Bowen’s progress since their interest last summer.

It has been revealed that Bowen is represented by the same PLG agency as Liverpool full-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson.

In 22 Premier league appearances this season, Bowen has netted six times and has produced nine assists. This illustrates just how important the 25-year-old is to the Hammers, supported by his average Premier League match rating topping West Ham’s squad.

These West Ham fans panic at the Bowen transfer news

Anfield Watch relayed the Bowen transfer news reported by The Athletic on their Twitter account. West Ham Transfers proceeded to share their opinion on the matter, claiming that: “I have a feeling this’ll be our last season with Bowen.”

This sparked a number of Hammers fans to flood the comments with their reactions, with many fans reacting to the prospect of the Englishman’s departure.

Here’s what some of them had to say:

“Said it before, don’t really see Liverpool meeting the ludicrous price we’ll put on his head. All depends on how Kretinsky wants to run the club by summer, but 60m+ for a Mo Salah backup is mental for a traditionally sell to buy club”

“Fail to secure European football for next year and we could be in a bad place for sure. Fail to show any ambition to strengthen and doubly so. Plenty of time left in this window and season to head off potential trouble though.”

Rangers: Insider makes Barisic claim

A key update has emerged on Rangers left-back Borna Barisic, regarding interest from English outfit Aston Villa…

What’s the talk?

Club media partner Heart & Hand Podcast has claimed that they have been told that there has been no contact between the two clubs at this stage.

Barisic has been linked with a switch to the Midlands, but the Gers insider has called any reports claiming that talks have been held are false.

They Tweeted: “Asked and been told there has been no contact between Rangers and Villa about Barisic. Any reports to the contrary are false.”

Delight

This update will surely delight Rangers fans as it suggests that there is no serious interest from the Premier League side at this stage. There is less than a month to go until the transfer window opens and you can forgive supporters for being concerned that Steven Gerrard may want to come back and raid his former club.

Whilst this claim from Heart & Hand does not entirely rule out the possibility of the Croatian international departing next month, it does show that nothing is in the works right now and there is no need to worry about his future at Ibrox for the moment.

Supporters would be delighted by him staying in Glasgow as he is a crucial player for the club and his exit would be a huge blow for Gio van Bronckhorst. He has proven his quality in Scotland over the last few years, averaging a SofaScore rating of 7.28 this season after achieving a score of 7.40 last term.

Barisic has won an impressive 61% of his duels this season whilst also creating 2.0 chances per game and making 2.1 tackles and interceptions. This shows that he is able to merge solid defending with quality on the ball to progress the play from left-back, which is why fans would be gutted by his departure and will be delighted by this update on the lack of concrete interest in his services.

Hopefully, Villa will look elsewhere to strengthen their squad instead of raiding Rangers and Barisic will remain at Ibrox in the long term. His statistics show how important he is to the club moving forward and how difficult it would be to replace him in the transfer window, providing another reason for why the fanbase will be buzzing by this news.
