Sky Sports: Aston Villa make enquiry for "phenomenal" £250k-per-year star

Sky Sports has provided an update on Aston Villa’s potential future recruitment, with the Villans having made a “concrete enquiry” for a new midfielder.

Aston Villa eyeing reinforcements

With the January transfer window fast approaching, Aston Villa are expected to be busy as Unai Emery continues to craft a side capable of challenging at the top of the Premier League and Europe.

They have been strongly linked with a move for a new forward, while there is also concern over the future of defender Diego Carlos, who was made available for transfer over the summer window and could still leave this coming January.

Having struggled in recent weeks, it will likely be a case of adding depth to the squad rather than a major overhaul at Villa Park, but they may be forced to wait until the summer to get the man they seemingly really want.

Aston Villa make enquiry for new midfielder

That comes as a fresh update has been forthcoming on Aston Villa’s interest in PSV Eindhoven star Malik Tillman.

The USA star has enjoyed a fantastic start to the campaign and has drawn rave reviews for his performances in the Champions League and Eredivisie, with the ex-Rangers man enjoying a purple patch with the Dutch side.

It emerged last week that the USMNT forward was “surfacing” as a potential new recruit at Villa Park, and now Sky Sports has gone further, providing a fresh development.

Indeed, Sky Sport in Germany claims that “there are already several concrete inquiries for a winter transfer” and add that “Manchester United, Tottenham and Aston Villa are among those interested” in the former Bayern Munich man.

Bayern, for their part, have a buy-back clause for the American, but it is added that “a return to FC Bayern is currently considered unrealistic”, while Tillman “sees himself in the long term at an ambitious top club, with the Premier League being a major goal”.

However, his arrival in England won’t be cheap, with the midfielder still having almost four years left to run on his £250,000-a-year deal in Eindhoven. Sky adds that there is a release clause in his contract set at between €30-40m (£25-33m), but that it does not come into effect until the summer, meaning that a January transfer would likely be expensive.

Villa are clearly on the hunt for more attacking firepower and have been linked with several attacking midfielders as they look to find competition for Morgan Rogers. Tillman’s “phenomenal” performances have seen him catch the eye, and football analyst Ben Mattinson claims that the PSV man “reminds me of Morgan Rogers”.

Could he be the perfect man to help share the workload with the England international at Villa Park?

Pole position: Wolves now leading race to sign new £24k-p/w ace in January

Wolves are now in pole position to land a rapid new defender in January as they look to avoid relegation from the Premier League, handing Vitor Pereira reinforcements in the winter window to try and secure their survival.

Wolves get new regime off to winning start

New Wolves boss Pereira got his midlands managerial career off to the perfect start as his side blew away fellow relegation candidates Leicester City 3-0 at the King Power Stadium.

First half goals from compatriots Rodrigo Gomes and Goncalo Guedes as well as an effort from Matheus Cunha were enough to secure all three points in Leicester, and move Wolves above Ipswich Town and just two points behind the Foxes, who sit in 17th place.

Wolves will be keen to make a signing or two in January

ByRoss Kilvington Dec 24, 2024

After the game, Pereira admitted he was confident he could keep the Old Gold in the top flight, and that their performances would continue to improve.

“I asked them to be proud of our work at the end of the game and to make the supporters proud of our work”, he told BBC Sport.

“In three days, to organise the team and give them confidence to play – that is hard. I believe that this team will be more comfortable with the ball, with more possession and also creating more situations to score.

“I believe that we will stay in the Premier League and we will play at a better level than we saw today.”

But, with the January transfer window, Wolves are expected to look to the transfer market to ensure their safety, and have now identified their top target.

Wolves in pole position to sign speedy defender

That comes as Football Insider report that Wolves have made Lens defender Kevin Danso their no.1 transfer target heading into the January transfer window, with the club “leading the race” and in pole position for his signature as things stand.

The former Southampton defender has rebuilt his career in France, and was expected to leave over the most recent summer window only for a move to Roma to fall through.

Now, he could depart in January, with reports coming out of France claiming that Lens are hoping to sell either the Austrian or defensive partner Abdukodir Khusanov in a bid to raise funds.

In a bid to agree an exit, Lens have tasked Jorge Mendes with finding Danso a new club, which could explain the interest from Wolves given their history with the super agent.

Premier League, Liverpool news, Liverpool latest news, Liverpool update, Liverpool transfers, Liverpool transfer news, Kevin Danso

Football Insider claim that “talks have been held internally at Wolves” and that Danso has “been identified as the top target”. No fee is mentioned for the defender, who still has more than two years left to run on his £24k a week deal in France.

One thing that Wolves would certainly be getting with any potential move for Danso is athleticism. Dubbed “rapid” by Ben Mattinson on X, the 6ft 2 defender clocked a top speed of 33.3kmp/h at the summer European Championships, faster than both William Saliba and Virgil van Dijk.

With a Max Kilman-shaped hole still in the Wolves backline, Danso could be the perfect man to plug it and lead the Old Gold to safety.

Marsch says he's not a traitor for coaching CanadaLed Canada to third-place win over the USMNTInsists he's thinking long-term future with CanadaFollow GOAL on WhatsApp! 🟢📱WHAT HAPPENED?

Jesse Marsch is America's most successful coach abroad, taking on three first division managerial roles with RB Salzburg, RB Leipzig and Leeds before eventually joining Canada. Prior to Canada's third-place match against the USMNT Sunday night, where they would win 2-1, Marsch spoke with CBS and defended himself against recent insults in the U.S. about being a traitor for coaching

"This is not about being a traitor," Marsch said in the interview. "If I would have said, 'I'm not taking the U.S. job. I'm going to Canada?' Right? That's an important [distinction] then maybe you could say, yeah. But like, you know U.S. had the chance to hire me, and now it's over."

Long-rumored for the U.S. job, the team interviewed Marsch while investigating Gregg Berhalter for violent conduct. The USMNT elected to bring back Berhalter and a year later, Marsch reflected on the process saying he wasn't treated very well by U.S. Soccer.

"You know it's over, trust me, it is over. It is over," Marsch said of future interest in the USMNT role. "I'm enjoying my time in Canada entirely. Like, I'm thinking more about what could this look like long term, you know? And working with the game in the country, working with the coaching elements, trying to build a more robust youth national team program, trying to connect the dots of what the game is and what the sport is in the country. And I find that there's a lot of people that really want to work together and that part's been really nice."

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Marsch's arrival in Canada heightened the rivalry between and the Americans. Canada have beaten the U.S. in their last two outings, including Sunday night, for the first time since 1985. And Marsch now wants Canada to continue to progress ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

"We had a good 2024, we did well at Copa America, all these things. And I just said, 'Look, culturally, the game is nowhere near what it is in Mexico, right?' So it's not just, do we have a good player pool and is our do we, you know, do we have a good foundation for what the team is," Marsch said. "Yes, we do. We can say that we're creating some high-level talents in these countries, but to put it all together culturally, right? To really understand how to be the best, to beat the best, to be amongst the best – like this is where the challenge lies."

Marsch has a 7-5-4 record as Canada's manager (WLD).

PL clubs want him: West Brom set for Rogers repeat with "explosive" ace

West Bromwich Albion cruised past Bristol City 2-0 last time out in Championship action to gift home supporters at the Hawthorns an early Christmas present.

That victory puts the Baggies just outside of the playoff picture in the unrelenting division, as a trip to Derby County now awaits on Boxing Day.

After the bumper fixture period is done around the close of the year heading into 2025, the small matter of the January transfer window will then hurtle into view, with Carlos Corberan’s promotion chasers potentially worried about the exit of one star.

West Brom fielding interest in "explosive" star

As per Sky Sports commentator Guy Havord during West Brom’s 2-0 win over the Robins, Everton could be tempted into going back in for a deal to snap up West Brom ace Tom Fellows after once ‘sniffing around,’ the youngster.

Sean Dyche’s side were reportedly interested in signing the homegrown Baggies winger in the summer, but nothing ended up materialising on that front, with Southampton also keen on winning the 21-year-old’s services, having seen a bid allegedly rejected back in August.

The “explosive” attacker – as he was labelled by football talent scout Jacek Kulig earlier in the year – could well end up thriving in the higher division if a move was to be sealed, having been one of West Brom’s main creative sparks all season long.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

What the move would mean for West Brom & Fellows

Ultimately, this could go down as another deal the Baggies rue signing off on though, considering Morgan Rogers – much like Fellows – once called the West Midlands home as an entertaining youngster, before catapulting himself to stardom in the league above with West Brom’s close-by rival in Aston Villa.

Morgan Rogers

Of course, there was a significant amount of time between Rogers’ exit from West Brom and him now starring for the Villans, with the Villa number 27 leaving the Baggies behind in 2019.

But, the Championship side should still view Rogers’ seriously impressive rise at Villa Park as a cautionary tale, with the 22-year-old once a top performer himself in the second tier like Fellows.

Amazingly, Fellows is actually bettering the Villa gem’s output this season when contrasted with Rogers’ league numbers for Middlesbrough last campaign, before he then departed Michael Carrick’s men for a seat at the elite table.

Therefore, it’s no shock that many a Premier League suitor is beginning to eye up Fellows, who added another assist to his resume in that routine victory over Liam Manning’s men when teeing up Mikey Johnston for his second goal of the afternoon.

Usually, it’s a tricky dart forward that gifts Fellows an opportunity to set up one of his thankful teammates, with Rogers operating much the same way in the Premier League, having amassed a ridiculous five successful dribbles against Manchester City last match.

There is something in the air, therefore, to suggest that West Brom’s breakout number 31 could go on to make waves in the top flight like Rogers, but Corberan and Co will be doing everything in their power to keep their unpredictable winger situated at the Hawthorns past January.

After all, when Albion lost Rogers to Man City in 2019, they were left to feel ultimately powerless, as the raw attacking midfielder was blinded by the allure of the Etihad.

In this scenario, however, the ball is very much in the Baggies’ court, as West Brom aim to try and win promotion up to the Premier League when the hectic window concludes.

Corberan must now ditch West Brom star who earns even more than Maja

This West Bromwich Albion star could soon be heading for the exit door.

Agents tell Arsenal that Bayern Munich star is "seriously considering" move

Arsenal have been informed by representatives that a Bayern Munich star is “seriously considering” a transfer to England, as Mikel Arteta’s side become contenders to secure his services next year.

Arsenal prepare to face Ipswich Town in the Premier League

While the vast majority of Premier League sides kicked-off on Boxing Day, Arteta and today’s adversary Kieran McKenna were forced to wait a day later to commence their top flight face-off, with Arsenal taking on Ipswich Town at the Emirates Stadium this evening.

Arteta earmarks £83m forward as a main candidate to join Arsenal in January

Arsenal didn’t play on Boxing Day because Amazon Prime wanted to spread out the games for better TV coverage, with the media giant electing to broadcast the Gunners and Ipswich, alongside Brentford versus Brighton, tonight instead of a day post-Christmas.

McKenna’s side travel to North London with the aim of causing a huge upset, and it would be just that, considering Ipswich have won just two of their 17 Premier League games so far, whilst also losing four in their last five.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are forced to contend without Bukayo Saka after he picked up a knee injury in their 5-1 win at Crystal Palace. Arteta has confirmed that the £195,000-per-week winger will be out for “many weeks”, and the Spaniard cannot turn to summer signing Raheem Sterling, who’s also picked up a knee injury.

Arteta has a selection dilemma on his hands, as he decides how best to set his team up without both of his first-choice right-wingers. Kai Havertz can play out wide in Saka’s stead, as can Gabriel Jesus if required, and this could be a chance to hand Ethan Nwaneri more top-flight minutes.

In any case, Arteta has urged his team not to underestimate Ipswich tonight.

“Very impressed,” said Arteta on Ipswich as a team.

“I like Kieran and have a lot of people that know him very closely, and they always say great things about him. You can tell how they’re coached, what they’re trying to do. I think they’ve been very unfortunate in many games not getting the results that they deserve, so a very tough game for sure.”

Arsenal told by agents that Alphonso Davies could move to England

Off the field, interim director Jason Ayto and the wider recruitment department are preparing for both the January and summer transfer windows at Arsenal, with Bayern left-back Alphonso Davies on their agenda.

The Canada superstar is out of contract next summer, meaning he can agree a pre-contract with a Premier League club in January ahead of joining them for free later in the year.

Bayern Munich'sAlphonsoDaviescelebrates scoring their fifth goal

The possibility of snapping Davies up on a free transfer is something which interests Arsenal – alongside Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea and Man United – as The Boot Room report this week.

TBR and journalist Graeme Bailey claim that Arsenal have been told by agents that Davies is “seriously considering” a move to England, amid this clamour for his services from elite Premier League sides, and while Bayern are hopeful he’ll extend, they’re also wary he could move on to pastures new.

Interestingly, it is also believed that Bundesliga giants are targeting AC Milan defender Theo Hernandez as a potential replacement.

    WHAT HAPPENED

In a highly anticipated cross-conference clash at BC Place, Chicago Fire FC, led by head coach Gregg Berhalter, handed the Vancouver Whitecaps their first defeat of the 2025 MLS season with a convincing 3-1 victory Saturday night.

The match marked the first time Gregg Berhalter coached against his son Sebastian – a starting midfielder for Vancouver – in professional play, adding a personal dimension to the tactical battle on the field.

Sebastian Berhalter joined the Whitecaps in February 2022 via trade from Columbus Crew. Son of the Chicago Fire coach, Sebastian agreed to a new contract in 2023 that will keep him in Vancouver through 2025, with a club option for 2026. He started and played all 90 minutes against Chicago, attempting three shots and completing 80 percent of his passes.

"Every time there was a set piece, I held my breath – he puts in some good balls. It's kind of annoying!" Gregg, the former USMNT coach, joked after the match. "Everyone is here – aunts, uncles, grandparents. Thankfully, we won, so I don’t have to buy dinner."

Chicago Fire ended Vancouver's perfect start to the 2025 MLS season. Hugo Cuypers opened the scoring for Chicago in the first minute, but Daniel Ríos equalized for Vancouver in the 14th minute. Philip Zinckernagel regained the lead for Chicago in the 62nd minute, and Rominigue Kouamé sealed the victory with a goal in stoppage time.

This win marked Chicago's third consecutive road victory, a feat they hadn't achieved since 2009.

Everton interested in signing "dangerous" striker with 31 goals last season

Everton are now interested in signing an “extremely dangerous” new striker in a bid to stave off the threat of relegation in the winter transfer window.

Everton transfer news

Despite a 4-0 victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers last time out, it would be fair to say the Toffees’ Premier League campaign has been underwhelming so far, having collected just 14 points from their opening 14 games.

As such, Sean Dyche may be keen to strengthen his squad this January, and there have been reports the manager is now pushing to sign Fenerbahce winger Oguz Aydin, having previously sent scouts to watch him in action.

Dyche may need to strengthen his attacking options this winter, as there have been reports the manager could look to cash in on Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has already turned down offers to extend his stay at Goodison Park.

Signing a new striker may then have to become a priority for Everton, as Beto is also now pushing to leave the club due to his lack of game time this season. Torino are now in active talks over a deal which could amount to around £16.5m.

ByHenry Jackson Dec 9, 2024 Everton keen on Yuri Alberto

According to a report from The Boot Room, one new signing the Toffees have in mind is Corinthians striker Yuri Alberto, who has admitted that he dreams of playing in the Premier League. However, there may well be competition for the Brazilian’s signature from a number of other Premier League clubs, with both Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest named as potential suitors, while West Ham United have previously tabled a £14m bid.

A bid of £17m could be enough to secure the 23-year-old’s signature at the beginning of 2024, and he has stated there is a 50/50 chance he leaves Corinthians this January, which could open the door for a move to Goodison Park.

Although the Merseyside derby was postponed due to Storm Darragh last week, Everton’s fixture list still looks extremely tricky this winter.

As such, Dyche may be in a position where he needs to strengthen his squad in January to avoid being dragged into a relegation battle, and Alberto could be exactly the type of signing to propel the Toffees to safety.

Football talent scout Jacek Kulig has lauded the Corinthians star as “extremely dangerous” in the past, and he was in fine form in front of goal for the Brazilian club last term. The former Santos man chalked up 31 goals in 57 games in all competitions, indicating that he could be ready to take the next step in his career by moving to the Premier League.

The uncertain futures surrounding Calvert-Lewin and Beto make signing a striker a priority for Dyche this winter, and at £17m Alberto could be the perfect replacement.
